Classical Pianist to Perform at Whittier College 

WHAT:                        Antonio Pompa-Baldi, winner of the silver medal in the 11th Van
Cliburn International Piano Competition, in concert.
 

WHEN:                        8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 7  Note: Date has been changed from
                                     Feb. 8

WHERE:                      The Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts at Whittier
                             College

                             (At the corner of Philadelphia St. and Painter Ave.)  

COST:                         $15 for the general public; $12 for students and senior citizens
                             with ID.
 

ADD:                      Noted for his warmth, exquisite taste and arresting technique,
Antonio Pompa-Baldi has performed as a soloist with orchestras throughout
Europe and the United States. He won his first
competitive medal at age 13 and has since been a top prizewinner
in more than 20 national and international competitions. He was
first prize winner at the 1999 Cleveland Competition and a top
prizewinner in the 1998 Marguerite Long–Jacques Thibaud
Competition.

                            

Formerly a teacher at Oberlin, Pompa-Baldi was recently named Distinguished Professor of Piano at the Cleveland Institute of Music.  His repertoire for the 2002–2003 concert season includes Mozart’s
Sonata in F Major
, as well as music by Chopin, Debussy, and Rachmaninoff.
