Whittier College News Release
Christmas with Chorale Bel Canto
Celebrate Christmas with Chorale Bel Canto—an afternoon of glorious music from the Middle Ages to the 21st century—beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Whittier Presbyterian Church, 6030 El Rancho Drive, in Whittier.
Featured works will include contemporary settings of the ancient Latin text of Hodie (“this day Christ is born”), including one by director Stephen Gothold. In addition, the choir will sing several bright and lively tunes from the ever-popular Alfred Burt Carols, with words that capture—from mistletoe to manger—the varying meanings of Christmas. The concert will also include work by John La Montaine and Z. Randall Stroope. Traditional and familiar carols will be included in the audience sing-along portion of the program.
Tickets are $12 for the general public, $10 for seniors, and $5 for student rush to students with identification. Tickets and information are available by calling Nelson Kiefer at (562) 695-1727. Information is also available online at www.choralebelcanto.org.
Chorale Bel Canto is a community-based masterworks chorale, with a mission to present diverse, high-quality music in appropriate venues throughout the San Gabriel Valley. Director Gothold is professor of music at Whittier College.
