Rusty Sabella Brings His Trio to Whittier College 

WHAT:            Sabella in concert 

WHEN:          8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22 

WHERE:          The Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts 13406 Philadelphia
                    Street, Whittier
 

COST:             $30 for the general public, $25 for students and senior
                   citizens with ID.
 

ADD:                    Led by guitarist Rusty Sabella, this trio employs a diverse combination of instrumentation, including mandolin, mandocello, flutes, saxophones, penny whistles, electronic woodwinds, piano, keyboards and percussion to serenade audiences with music and wit, along with musings on philosophy, art, music and food.  Sabella performs everything from Italian dance tunes of the 12th century to original jazz compositions.  The trio’s music has been referenced as chamber jazz, Renaissance jazz and Celtic jazz.  A professional musician since the age of 15, Rusty Sabella has shared
the stage with such diverse acts as the Beach Boys and the Philadelphia String Quartet.  He has appeared on NPR’s “A Prairie Home Companion,” and performed with several symphony orchestras.

(Note to editors:  There will be an outreach performance for children from El Portal Elementary School on Friday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m. in the Shannon Center.  The outreach performance is sponsored by the Rose Hills Foundation.
