Scenes from Moliere Staged at Whittier College

Moliere Amoureux, scenes from several plays written by the 17th-century French playwright, will be performed by Continent II, beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in the Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts at Whittier College.

The presentation is part of the college’s fifth annual celebration of National French Week.  Continent II is a Paris- and Los Angeles-based theater company dedicated to promoting French and francophone culture in North America, discovering and promoting American authors’ and artists’ work in Europe, and exchanging craft and knowledge as well as bringing together artists from different backgrounds.

Moliere is perhaps best known to American audiences for The Imaginary Invalid, and the program includes four scenes from that play.  Other scenes to be presented are from The School for Wives, Don Juan, The Misanthrope, and The Learned Ladies.

The production is being co-sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF), and the Southern California branch of the AATF, along with the French Learning Website, the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures and the Office of the Dean of Faculty at Whittier College.

Tickets are free, but reservations are required.  Reservations may be made by calling the Shannon Center Box Office at (562) 907-4203.

Located 18 miles east of Los Angeles, Whittier College is an independent, four-year college offering traditional liberal arts majors and strong pre-professional programs taught in the context of the liberal arts.  Whittier Law School, which is accredited by the American Bar Association and is a member of the Association of American Law Schools, is located on a separate campus in Costa Mesa.
