Trustee Ruth B. Shannon Honored by Scouts

Ruth B. Shannon and friendsLongtime Whittier College Trustee Ruth B. Shannon was recently honored as an influential activist during the “Women in Scouting” Gala Dinner, a benefit hosted by the Los Angeles Area Council and San Gabriel Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America. 

Shannon has been very committed to the L.A. Scouting association with both her sons serving as Scouts. She has been leader for the Annual Rio Hondo Good Scout Award, named perpetual Honoree Chair, since its inception in 1984. In 1987, she was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. 

Fellow honorees were Jeanine Cushman of Pasadena and Kathryn Turner of Long Beach.

Shannon currently serves on the board of the LAAC Boy Scouts of America, YMCA, Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital Foundation, Huntington Library, Autry National Center, and Whittier College.
