Olivia FoppianoOlivia Foppiano, a senior majoring in psychology and entrepreneur, always dreamed about attending college and made her dream a reality at Whittier. Next Stop: A career in operations and member success at SoFi, a finance company.

Major:

Psychology

Hometown:

Healdsburg, CA

Childhood dream:

There were a number of different career paths I wanted to pursue, but I remember in kindergarten I told my parents I couldn't wait to go to attend college.

College highlights, achievements, and awards:

On campus I pledged the Athenian Society. I also was a member of the Psychology Club, Global Ambassadors, and the National Honor Society, Psi Chi. I worked as a Peer Mentor, Poet Intern for the Office of International Programs, a media assistant and a coordinator for the Whittier College New Student Orientation Team. I studied abroad for a semester in the Fall 2014 in Florence, Italy. I received a John Greenleaf scholarship as well.

Off campus I interned for SoFi in Operations and Community and Member Success, Sonic as a marketing assistant, and Youth Connections as a Program Development Intern. I also managed a small business selling handmade flower crowns and accessories with another Whittier College student that has now sold to reality TV stars and customers all over the world. I also worked as an assistant for Vida Volunteer in Costa Rica making media promotional content.

 What was your favorite class?

My favorite class was research methods with Dr. Christina Scott because the class was challenging and rewarding. It taught you useful tools to succeed in academics and in the professional world.

What's your favorite place to study on campus?

I love to study in the International Program's iplace because they've done a great job of creating a welcoming environment students.

Who is your favorite faculty/staff member?

Dr. Joanne Hash and Dr. Christina Scott because they are passionate about teaching and care about what the students learn. They are two examples of why the psychology department is so strong.

Finish this sentence: If I could explore L.A. with anyone it would be...

Chole King, Forbes 30 under 30 for Marketing and Advertisement, and the PR and social media manager for Bergdorf Goodman. I'd like to talk with her about how she stared her career and where she plants to do next. I also have a feeling she'd be willing to explore a combination of museums, hip restaurants, and recreational parks with me!

What do you plan to do after graduation?

I will be taking two months to travel Europe, then I will be starting my career at SoFi. I plan to learn as much as I can so that I may challenge myself to grown into the highest level position fit for me that is financially rewarding, mentally stimulating, and brings me happiness.

The one Whittier experience I'll always remember...

Pledging the Athenian Society. When you find the right fit on campus, whether it's with a club, society, or sports team, it creates an environment and support system that helps you to grow as a person during your time at Whittier College.
