Jillian Infusino, Whittier College studentPoets are leaders. This is the case of Jillian Infusino '16 who is the National Venturing Vice President for the Boy Scouts of America. Venturing is a youth development program for young men and women whose purpose is to help young people mature, prepare them to become responsible adults, and build character, citizenship and fitness.

"My brother started out in the Boy Scouts at a young age and I was the tag along sister. Eventually, I found out about Venturing, joined them and have had incredible experiences through them," said Infusino.

Infusino has represented the Boy Scouts of America at numerous national events including reporting to the National Boy Scouts of America's Executive Board at national meetings.

"I've traveled to more than 20 states around the country to support other Venturing presidents and local crews. I even had the chance to visit Sweden in 2011 for the World Scout Jamboree," added Infusino.

Earlier this year, Infusino and six other Boy Scout and Eagle Scout representatives had the opportunity to meet with top leadership in Washington, DC, and talk to them about the 2014 Report to the Nation. Among the dignitaries that she met with was President Barack Obama. See a short video of her visit with President Obama.

"The report is a great way to remind Washington leaders that Scouts do meaningful work in their communities and that Scouting is preparing young people for a character-filled life, said Infusino.

The Whittier Scholars Program major is a dynamic leader and also has very clear plans for her professional career. She is combining her interests in psychology, child development, kinesiology, and biology and would like to follow a career in occupational therapy. And she's well on her way to her professional path. Infusino volunteers once a week at a local hospital to earn practical hours in occupational therapy and has plans to pursue graduate degrees in the field.
