Super BowlProfessor of Religion Joe Price was included in an article posted by The Week about the cultural phenomenon that the Super Bowl has become since it was first played in 1967.

The Super Bowl has created "a convergence of sports, politics, and myth," said Price to The Week. "Like festivals in ancient societies, which made no distinctions regarding the religious, political, and sporting character of certain events, the Super Bowl succeeds in reuniting these now disparate dimensions of social life," added Price.

According to NBC, an estimated 114.5 million viewers tuned in to the XLIX Super Bowl where the New England Patriots beat the Seattle Seahawks 28-24.
