The Center for Science, Health, & Policy (CSHP) builds on Whittier’s lengthy history of educating scientists, health professionals, policy makers, and teachers. As it prepares future leaders in these critical fields, Center faculty work to heighten students’ awareness of how solutions to today’s most difficult scientific and technological challenges are often found at the nexus of multiple disciplines, incorporating the perspectives of the social sciences and humanities.
Beyond the classroom walls, partnerships with local hospitals, school districts, and community organizations allow students a first-hand glimpse at the real health problems affecting the immediate region and involve students and faculty as partners in working to solve these problems. Through these experiences, both in and outside the classroom, students are endowed with the interactive edge and contextual understanding that will be demanded of future professionals in the field.
