Career Planning for Juniors

During your junior year, you will consider many options for after college, including graduate school, professional school, and full-time employment. The Center for Career Planning & Internships can help you clarify your goals and put you in position to make the best choice for you.

In their first semester, juniors should pursue the following goals:

  1. Take Career Planning Class, INDT 14, if possible
  2. Learn about the range of career options connected to your major
  3. Attend career fairs to find out more about companies, who is hiring, and build your network
  4. Attend Backpack-to-Briefcase (B2B) career panels to meet and learn from successful alumni
  5. Talk with professors, counselors and parents about possible careers and internship or volunteer opportunities
  6. Conduct informational interviews
  7. Meet with a career counselor to discuss internships and application process

In their second semester, juniors should pursue the following goals:

  1. Network and continue talking with alumni mentors (via Poet Paths)
  2. Complete one or more internships in your major field of interest
  3. Develop a list of possible full-time employers
  4. If graduate school is on your agenda, research schools, fellowships and admissions requirements
  5. Attend Graduate School Information Seminar
  6. Attend Backpack-to-Briefcase (B2B) career panels to meet and learn from successful alumni
  7. Talk with professors, counselors and parents about possible careers and internship or volunteer opportunities
