The Weingart Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD) recognizes the critical role that families play in a student’s college experience and personal career choices. We suggest that you encourage your student to use our services and make us a partner in his or her career development process throughout college and after graduation.
Helping Your Student Understand the Career Planning Process
One way that you can better empower your student to be independent and to take charge of his or her career is to learn about the career process yourself. Please read through - and share with your student - the resources we have provided below:
How Families Can Get Involved with the CCPD
We encourage parents to support the CCPD by volunteering their time and expertise in their own professional field with Whittier students. Below are just some of the way you can get involved. Additional suggestions can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Share Career Advice
Parents and other volunteers can provide valuable career and industry-related information to students. A few ways you can engage with Whittier students include:
Answering questions over the phone, through email, or at your job site
Providing tours or job shadowing opportunities at your job site
Speaking on campus about your career field and professional experiences
Post Openings for Internships and Full/Part Time Positions Using Poet Paths
Poet Paths is Whittier College’s exclusive online job board for Poet students and alumni. Your organization may post internships, full-time entry-level, and full-time experienced positions on Poet Paths at no charge. Learn how to post a job or internship.
Showcase Your Organization to Students through an Information Session
Each year, employers from diverse industries visit campus and talk to students about their organization. Most of these employers are interested in hiring students for internships and full-time jobs. To learn more about our Information Session program please contact the career center at email@example.com.
