Weather
While it's a pure myth that the weather's always sunny in Southern California, we do tend to have more bright than gloomy days, more dry than wet months. In general, temperatures at the beach run 10-20 degrees cooler than in Whittier, and overnight temperatures in nearby Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake are considerably chillier than on campus.
Rainy months in the Los Angeles area occur in both winter and spring—the wettest month is typically February. And, though the summer heat seems to begin in May, our famous "June Gloom"—an effect produced by a morning marine layer that doesn't burn off until late morning—tends to keep temperatures manageable in the early summer. Indian summers being common, our hottest months are August, September, and October.
