Residence Halls
Whittier College is a residential community where the vast majority of students live on campus in one of our centrally located residence halls. A wide variety of halls, some large and some small, provide students with a variety of choices as to their living accommodations. Some facilities are set aside for upperclassmen, others for first and second year students. (First year students reside in Living-Learning Communities, based upon shared coursework and interests.) Each hall contains common lounge areas, with cable television, fireplaces, pool tables, ping pong tables, and basic cooking facilities. Also, certain residence halls are located immediately next to such campus resources as computer labs, the library, the fitness center, or Faculty Master’s Houses (houses where faculty members live and host cultural and educational events).
Hall Staffing
The residence halls are staffed by full-time area coordinators (ACs) and undergraduate resident advisors (RAs), who provide students with continuous support, assistance, and program opportunities for learning and development. Residents of each hall also elect governance officers to represent their concerns within the hall, as well as within the Residence Hall Association and greater student government organization, the Council of Representatives.
The Residence Halls
Seven residence halls grace the Whittier College campus—Ball, Johnson, Harris, Stauffer, Turner, Wanberg, and Wardman—and houses between 20 to 210 students. Each hall has an individual architectural style and interior décor, and each year, develops a personality unique to its inhabitants.
Ball Hall - With a mid-century design and central location, this co-educational hall houses around 90 students.
Cambell Hall - Built in 1929, Campbell Hall serves as the International Aspect dorm for 24 students.
Harris Hall - Near the Athletic Center, Harris is home to 150 students, and has wide panoramic views of LA. Harris Hall also has air conditioning and carpeting. Harris Hall hosts special interest housing.
Johnson Hall - The closest hall to the Wardman Library and near other academic buildings, Johnson houses 90 students, and the dorm is also directly attached to a Faculty Master’s house.
Stauffer Hall - Stauffer houses approximately 210 students. Stauffer houses first-year students in living-learning communities.
Turner Hall - The newest residence hall at Whittier, Turner is located atop the upper campus and rooms have panoramic views of Los Angeles. Near the Athletic Center, Turner Hall houses about 180 upperclassmen.
Wardman Hall - Quiet and intimate, Wardman Hall is co-educational and home to 34 students. This dignified hall also houses the Whittier Scholars Program and classrooms.
Wanberg Hall - Close to the Athletic Center and a Faculty Master’s house, Wanberg houses 90 students and is co-educational by floor.
