Leadership & Service

Candlelight Vigil Leadership development an important and exciting part of every student's experience at Whittier College. Strong leadership skills not only enhance campus activities, but also provide students with valuable tools for both career and personal development. The Office of Leadership, Experience, and Programs (LEAP) is committed to strengthening student leadership through three formal programs: P.O.E.T. Leadership (Providing Opportunities for Excellence through Leadership), First Class Leadership Series, and the Developing Leaders Summit. In addition, the Office of the President coordinates several events during the year for students nominated to membership in the Lessons on Leadership series.

With its connection to lifelong learning and strong character development, community service has a prominent place at Whittier College. Service also resonates with student development values and affirms the historical Quaker mission upon which the institution was founded. As a result, service projects are a key component within both student and residential life, as well as the academic curriculum. During the year, the Office of Student Activities coordinates a number of service opportunities, both on and off campus, in which students, faculty, and staff can participate.
