Hispanic Heritage Month

Join us in celebrating the cultures and traditions of U.S. residents who trace their roots to Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. | 9 | 6 p.m. | "Uruguayan Murgas" with Dr. Ethel Jorge in Garrett House. These parades from Afro, European, and Creole Cultures are a combination of music and performance. Murgas are composed by a small group of people who sing about the country's society, politics, and news in an ironic and funny way. |

| 14 | 7:00-9:00 p.m. | "Made in L.A." screening in Hoover 100 and Q&A with director of the film, immediately following the screening. This Emmy nominated film follows the remarkable story of three Latina immigrants working in Los Angeles garment sweatshops as they embark on a three-year odyssey to win basic labor protections from a mega-trendy clothing retailer. |

The Whittier College community gathers to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Martin Ortiz's graduation from Whittier and the 40+ years he has dedicated in service of the College. Enjoy an afternoon of music, dance, delicious food from Latin America, and much more! |

A traditional folk art from Southern Mexico used to celebrate Day of the Dead, sugar skulls are colorfully decorated with icing, pieces of bright foil, colored sugars and usually bear the name of the deceased loved one being honored. |
