BSU members and guests celebrate Kwaanza at Wardman House, the official residence of Whittier's president. The Black Student Union (BSU) assists Black students enrolled at Whittier, both academically and socially, through events, programs, and activities held throughout the year. In addition, the BSU seeks to make an impact on the political, cultural, psychological, and intellectual development of its members.

Among the many events sponsored by this organization is the African/African-American Graduation Dinner, which serves to celebrate the accomplishments of Black students at Whittier, and acknowledge their successes. In honor of Black History Month, the BSU annually coordinates special programming exploring cultural heritage and history; past years' events have included dance lessons, a kick-off lunch with a live D.J., and guest speaker Corliss Bennett (of USC’s Center for Black Culture and Student Affairs), who spoke on the topic "You don't have to be an NFL coach to make a difference.”
