Parents & Families
Get Involved
Whittier College encourages all parents and families of current students to build a relationship with the College community through a variety of programs and opportunities.
Among our current initiatives geared specifically toward parents and families are:
- Poet Sports on the Road. During the three athletic seasons, a number of our 21 sports teams have games scheduled on-the-road. In some cases, this means a few-mile roadtrip by car; in others, our Poets are outside the region, and may be at a stadium, field, or swimming pool near you. If you would like to organize a Poet tailgate party or host our players at your home, please contact the Athletics Department, 562.907.4271 or wcpoets@whittier.edu and let us know how you'd like to support our athletes.
- Professionals Giving Back. Parents and family members of students who have achieved success in their own careers are encouraged to give back to the College by sharing their professional expertise—through participation in workshops, guest lectures, becoming a mentor, arranging a "shadowing" opportunity, or hiring a student for an internship or summer position, or full-time employment upon graduation. If you would like to contribute your assistance and expertise in any of these ways, please contact the Office of Career Services, 562.907.4230 or CareerServices@whittier.edu.
- Whittier College Parents Fund. Many parents and family members choose to make an unrestricted gift to the Parents Fund to provide scholarships for deserving students with financial need, innovative academic programs and support for scholarly inquiry, programs and services that students depend on, and investments in advanced technology. In addition, many parents are able to double their giving through their company's matching gift program. There are many ways to give! Current parents are invited to join the John Greenleaf Whittier Society, the College's premier donor society. If you would like to make a gift to the Whittier College Parents Fund you can give online or contact Kelli Bronson, Director of Individual Giving, at (562) 970-4209.
