Student Alumni Board
The Student Alumni Board (SAB) of Whittier College was created to establish a partnership between students and alumni that fosters lifelong engagement with their alma mater. The group’s main focus is to promote quality interaction for alumni and students and encourages student involvement in activities on campus. The primary goal is to build Poet Pride!
Students are selected to serve on the SAB through a competitive nomination and application process. These students are able to participate in valuable networking experiences, and they benefit from mentoring from alumni and access to internship opportunities. Through this unique experience students are able to develop leadership skills, teamwork, and communication skills. Students provide input to the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association on opportunities to enhance alumni engagement and involvement. All SAB members are issued personalized business cards and nametags for use at networking events. This experience is a great resume builder!
Duties of SAB members:
- Attend monthly committee meetings.
- Plan events to unite current students with alumni (e.g. Etiquette Dinners, Adopt-an-Alum, Backpack to Briefcase, etc.).
- Build programs to encourage student attendance and class spirit at sporting events; coordinate with alumni to attend away games; host potential recruits and families.
- Create and implement one philanthropic project per academic year that involves Whittier College students and alumni.
- Volunteer at all alumni events (e.g., Whittier Weekend, WAVE, Alumni House programs).
- Attend community events to represent Whittier College.
- Present individual class banners to each graduating class.
