APPLYING TO WHITTIER COLLEGE AS A FIRST-YEAR STUDENT
Whittier College offers both an online option and a paper option to apply for admission; in both cases, a $50* fee will be charged to process your application. Please note that whether you apply online or on paper, your application will not be complete until the Office of Admission receives your official high school transcript(s), SAT I or ACT test results, essay, letter of recommendation from a former or current teacher, and a counselor evaluation. Please see below for more information.
Online Option
Whittier College exclusively accepts the Common Application, which can be accessed at www.commonapp.org. In addition to the standard application portion, be sure to fill out our Common Application supplement. This supplement is required in order to be eligible for admission or scholarship.
Paper Option
The Common Application and other necessary forms can be downloaded here. You can also ask your high school counselor for a copy or contact our office at (562) 907-4238 (or just email us at admission@whittier.edu) and request that we send you one.
Once you have a copy of the application and supplement, you will need to complete the following steps:
- Submit a completed application and essay with a $50 application fee.
*If the application fee will cause a financial hardship for your family, you may ask your high school or college counselor for a fee waiver. - Request a recommendation from a former or current teacher; he or she must submit the completed form directly to the College. While you may also include recommendations from alumni, coaches, employers, or other individuals, you must submit at least one purely academic recommendation.
- Fill out the top portion of the Counselor Evaluation form; then ask your college counselor or advisor to complete and forward it directly to Whittier College.
- Ask all secondary high schools you have attended to forward your official transcripts to Whittier College. Transcripts for High School Honors Weekend and Early Action candidates should reflect courses through the junior year of high school. Transcripts for Regular Decision candidates should include courses taken in the fall semester of the senior year.
- Submit test results. Request that your SAT I (Code #4952) or ACT (Code #0480) results be sent to the College.
Feel free to submit any additional information you believe will help support your candidacy for admission.
