Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Whittier College Department of Music!

Our recently revised curriculum places great emphasis on documented student learning and prepares our students for a wide variety of traditional and newly emerging musical careers. Our award-winning music faculty are not only excellent teachers but also have successful careers in the music industry. They possess credentials that would make them welcome additions to virtually any school or conservatory in the country, but they chose the liberal arts setting of Whittier College in which to grow and flourish. Their performances and original compositions can be heard on numerous CDs and DVDs. They have performed in most all prestigious concert halls in the world, together with the some of the greatest artists in the music business. Their awards include NEA grants, teaching excellence awards, Grand Prix du Disque, along with U.S. and Latin Grammys. We also employ an accomplished group of artists-in-residence, who provide our students with private instrument and voice instruction. Together, we are all absolutely committed to providing our students with the intellectual tools and experiences necessary to be successful in the 21st century. Central to this success is our close collaboration with our students and our ability to draw upon our many colleagues in the field to open up internship- and work-related opportunities, which fosters student success.
