Department of Modern Languages
Facilities
Modern communications technology has turned the global village from a dream to a reality. The department's Language Resource Center and media-ready classrooms bring technology to the student, making the study of languages, literature, and cultures more interactive and effective. Instructors utilize the Internet as a tool to bring authentic, meaningful culture to their students and learning is enhanced through exercises to develop higher levels of skill in speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students and teachers also have free access to CD-ROMs and DVDs and can watch videos from around the world using the international VCR. Scanning with character recognition of multiple European and Asian languages is also available.
GTE Language Lab
The Department of Modern Languages believes language learning requires developing to the highest degree possible skills in speaking, listening, reading, writing and cultural understanding. Appropriately, the GTE Language Lab in Deihl Hall houses sophisticated multimedia equipment designed to support foreign language learning’s increased emphasis on technology as a method of bringing authentic, meaningful culture to students in and out of the classroom and at all levels of learning. Fourteen student work-stations allow students to utilize the most up-to-date computer software, as well as to receive digital audio and video, whether as part of a class or for individual or small group work.
