Learning often comes from connecting ideas in whole new ways. At Whittier, we strongly encourage educational discovery and development beyond the traditional classroom—through an internship or service project, a professional research or conference presentation, or participation in an international program.

At Whittier, education goes beyond the confines of campus. Here, we know that classroom learning needs to be practically applied, and so getting out into the community (both for career training as well as civic involvement) is crucial for intellectual and character growth. >>

From working in the film industry to city government to the non-profit world, recent internships have provided valuable work experience for Whittier College students and given them the opportunity to put theory learned in the classroom into action.

For her part, aspiring costume designer Julia Beltran '12 had an eye-opening experience interning with Frantic Redhead Productions as wardrobe assistant on the set of the film Refuge near Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Faculty Masters Houses

Modeled after similar programs at Oxford and Cambridge, Whittier's Faculty Masters Program combines themed educational and social activities, led by a faculty-in-residence and delivered in a more intimate and informal setting. >>
