Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Kinesiology and Leisure Science at Whittier College. We have an outstanding undergraduate program that continuously challenges students to make connections between theoretical frameworks and practical applications. Our department has a dynamic faculty who are dedicated to teaching with the primary aim of engaging students in the learning process. Course work in the major integrates biological and behavioral approaches using biomechanical, physiological, psychological and sociological perspectives to study human movement. Internships and fieldwork are highly encouraged for students to gain hands-on experience for future graduate or professional goals. Our majors prepare for professional programs in physical therapy and graduate programs in the areas of exercise science and sport and recreational management. Other graduates have successful careers as teachers, coaches, fitness specialists, and recreation leaders. If you have any questions about the major or the areas of emphasis, please e-mail me: pvanoosbree@whittier.edu.
