Careers
Students who graduate with a Whittier College degree in chemistry are well prepared to pursue advanced degrees in chemistry/biochemistry, enter medical school or other health science schools—such as dental, pharmacy, or optometry—or begin graduate programs in public health, law, forensic science, and genetic counseling.
More than 80 percent of program alumni who apply to graduate programs in the sciences are admitted. Graduates of the last 10 years have successfully completed degree programs at the following, among others:
| M.D. | Stanford, Cornell, University of Southern California (USC), Albert Einstein Medical School, Creighton, UCLA, St. Georges, Mayo Medical School |
| Pharm.D. | USC, University of Maryland, University of Arizona (pharmacology) |
| Ph.D. | Princeton, USC, Vanderbilt (molecular biology); Tufts, Brandeis, UCSD (biochemistry); USC, UC Irvine, (biological sciences); Stanford University, University of Oregon, University of Illinois (chemistry); University of Colorado (neuroscience) |
| MPH | Johns Hopkins, Loma Linda, St. Georges (public health) |
| D.D.S. | Loma Linda |
| O.D. | Oregon Health Sciences, Southern California College (optometry) |
| D.O. | Western University, Iowa University (osteopathic medicine) |
Many alumni of the program have gone on to successful careers working in the chemical industry, in research and development labs, in the field of biotechnology, and in the educational sector, teaching chemistry at the high school-level.
