Message from the Chair

On behalf of the Department of Biology, welcome to Whittier College! We invite you to become a part of an enthusiastic and inquisitive group of faculty and students who want to understand the living world. We represent many different fields of biology, but celebrate the fact that all living organisms share common features. We recognize the importance of other fields of study, and enjoy interacting with others on campus. We want to engage you in learning about life, by helping you to ask good questions and then determining the best ways of answering them. Our faculty members are all engaged in research programs that involve students, and we believe it is important for each student to have a significant independent research experience as a part of their education. Learning about science means doing science to us, and we will encourage you participate actively in our classes and our extracurricular activities.
