Bio
Professor Mike McBride, a political science professor, specializes in Soviet and Russian history and politics, human rights, and the United Nations. He has served as a consultant for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees since 1993 and serves on the Secretariat at UNHCR’s annual Executive Committee Session each October. He is also advisor for Whittier's Model United Nations program and serves on the Corporate Board for Model United Nations of the Far West, one of the oldest and best Model United Nations programs in the country.
He has published articles on Soviet politics, migration issues, simulation, baseball, public hearings, and education, written speeches for the United Nations General Assembly’s Third Committee and contributes to the annual reports of UNHCR to the General Assembly. In addition, he served as Assistant Dean for Advisement (1981-85), Director of Study Abroad (1981-2005) and as a head or assistant coach for women’s softball since founding the program with Bob Giomi and Warren Hanson in 1979.
